What’s Not in Our Condoms: Protecting You Without the Harmful Extras

Let’s face it - women’s bodies are incredible, but they’re also delicate. When it comes to our intimate health, what we expose our bodies to matters. Unfortunately, many traditional condoms are loaded with unnecessary and even harmful ingredients that can irritate our most sensitive areas. From that unmistakable "condom smell" to added chemicals designed to mask it, the industry has long prioritized cheap fixes over thoughtful design.

We’ve done things differently. We are here for what’s not in our condoms. Let’s break down the harmful ingredients you’ll find in many other condoms brands, and why we’ve left them out for good.

WHATS NOT IN OUR CONDOMS

Animal Products and That “Condom Smell”

Let’s talk about the infamous condom smell - the one you may recognize instantly. That smell isn’t just rubber; it’s  caused by casein, a milk protein used to soften latex during manufacturing. Casein is not only an animal-derived product (bad news for vegans or those avoiding animal products), but it’s also unnecessary - and yes, smelly. Without casein in our condoms, we are vegan friendly. 

Fragrance

To make matters worse, many condom brands add synthetic fragrances in a failed attempt to cover up the casein smell, or to make them more fun. We have sniff tested across the market  - and this mix is giving fish. Fragrance in such a sensitive area? No thanks, not fun! Not only is it unnecessary, but artificial fragrances can cause irritation, throw off your natural pH balance, and introduce chemicals that have no business near your body. We’ve skipped the casein, skipped the fragrance, and created a condom that’s both odorless and respectful of your body.

Petrochemicals

Petrochemicals, derived from petroleum, often linger in latex products. These industrial chemicals aren’t just bad for the environment - they’re bad for your body too. We’ve eliminated them entirely, opting for materials that are cleaner, safer, and better for your health.

Nitrosamine

Nitrosamine is a carcinogen commonly associated with latex products. Yes, you read that right - a carcinogen. It’s shocking that this chemical can still be found in some condoms. We’ve made sure ours are nitrosamine-free, so you can feel good about what you’re using.

Nonoxynol-9

This spermicide is marketed as an extra layer of protection, but it can damage the vaginal lining, increasing the risk of infections and irritation. It’s unnecessary, and frankly, not worth the risk. We’ve left it out to keep your body safe and happy.

Benzocaine

Ever seen condoms advertised with promises of “prolonging pleasure”? That’s benzocaine, a numbing agent designed to desensitize. The idea might sound appealing in theory, but in reality, it can dull sensation for both partners and cause irritation. At Cleoh, we don’t believe intimacy should come at the cost of comfort, so we’ve said no to benzocaine.

Parabens

Parabens are found in everything from shampoos to personal care products, but they’re not as harmless as they seem. These chemicals can disrupt hormones and irritate sensitive skin. When it comes to something as intimate as condoms, parabens have no place. We’ve left them out to keep things as safe and gentle as possible.

Gluten

Yes, gluten can show up in condoms too - used as a binding agent during production. For those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, this can be a nightmare. Even for those without sensitivities, why expose your body to unnecessary allergens? Our condoms are completely gluten-free, so you can use them with confidence.

Why Less Is More

Your body deserves better than a laundry list of unnecessary chemicals and irritants. Condoms should protect you, not make you uncomfortable or compromise your health. That’s why we’ve stripped ours down to the essentials - no harsh additives, no synthetic fragrances, and no animal-derived ingredients.
